Adults are human being or any other animal that has reached the full growth.The biological definition of the term is the animal has reached sexual maturity, and therefore capable of reproduction. For humans an adult's term has meanings associated with the legal and social world. As opposed to "minor" (or "non-adult" an legal adult refers to a person that has reached the age of the age of majority. They are thought to be to be responsible, independent and competent. The word "major" is a term used to define them. The age at which a child becomes an adult legally is 18, however, the definition of legal maturity is different based on the legal or country system, as well as the state of their mental health.

When a human reaches full physical and intellectual maturity this is known as adulthood. Typically, the age of adulthood is around age 21, or 20. Middle age, commencing approximately 40 years of age then follows by an ageing process that can last up to 60 years. The three phases of adulthood include early adulthood (from mid-30s through late-60s), middle adulthood from mid-30s until late-60s and then later adulthood (mid-60s up to the time of death). When we reach the early stage of adulthood (between 20-40) then our bodies have reached full maturation, even though the weight and height of our bodies might increase a bit. During young adulthood we reach the peak of our physical abilities.
